William’s Fund
William’s Fund raises money for research into Childhood Cancers.
William Dodd was only 2 years old when he was diagnosed with cancer, it was given various names but we never found out the exact type of cancer William had… all we know is that he had every treatment he could have. We were lucky that our Oncologists had experience and contacts in the USA and we know that expertise was sought from all the major oncology centres; however nobody could help because no one knew exactly what the tumour was.
Something many people do not know is that the key to treatment of cancer, especially childhood cancer, lies in the diagnosis, without that; the prognosis is poor. Childhood cancers behave in a very different way to adult cancers; they respond differently to treatment and can be unpredictable in both positive and negative ways.
William’s Fund was established in February 2001 in memory of William, who died on December 12th 2000 at the age of 4 years and 9 months. William amazed everyone at how he coped, always smiling with a twinkle in his eye that won so many hearts. Since William died, we have raised over £750,000 for Childhood Cancer Research.
William would have been 21 on 13th March 2017…We hope he would be proud of what has been achieved in his name. Please help us get to £1M during his 21st year!
Dr Helen Townley (William Dodd Research Fellow) & Dr Karl Morten are running the research programme, which is very specific to Childhood Cancer, at laboratories in Oxford; they have little funding other than charity and no official fundraisers. There are now several researchers including the William Dodd Research Fellow and some incredible results, which will also help the understanding and treatment of general cancers, whilst focusing on rare childhood forms, including alternative remedies!
All the profits raised by William’s Fund go directly to the research programme. We have no paid employees and administration is all voluntary. Please get involved!
